The Athletic Mindset
Athletes count on their bodies to deliver them results day in and day out. In order to get the best performance athletes must prepare, practice, and even more preparation. Former NBA player Pau Gasol spoke about this in his foreword of the book The Mamba Mentality: How I Play by Kobe Bryant. He explained that the Lakers had a team dinner before the playoffs and as everyone left to go home and rest, Kobe told them he was going to get an extra workout in. Gasol mentioned this quote in the book to drive the point home even further: “When everyone else was thinking it was time for bed, his mind was telling him it’s time to get ahead of the competition.” Kobe Bryant was constantly thinking of ways he can take his game to the next level and keenly focused on improving his skills on the court.
Athletes today spend countless late nights and early mornings making sure they are prepared to win every day on the field. They must also fuel their bodies the right way and create a balanced diet to make sure that their training isn’t being wasted. For example, numerous professional athletes like LeBron James and Russell Wilson have publicly stated that they invest over $1 million in their training and nutrition each year.
In the first episode of the Corporate Athlete Podcast, presented by our Founder Bryan Bruce, he spoke about what the athletic mindset is. Oftentimes in business and in life we are put in a difficult position that requires a different perspective to get a desired result. We observe how during games athletes have to be able to think quickly on their feet, adapt, and make adjustments. NFL quarterbacks are perfect examples of this as when they get to the line of scrimmage they assess the opponent and call audibles to try and take advantage of weaknesses they see in the defense. However, these concepts of the Athletic Mindset do not only apply to athletes, this can apply to anyone in any facet of their life. Not everyone is an athlete in the traditional sense of the word, however, each person has their own athletic mindset in them that pushes them to be the best at anything they do.
At YBV, we apply that mindset to the services we provide in digital marketing. We offer digital marketing with a human touch and offer the athletic mindset to each of our clients. We serve brands in a multitude of industries including hotels, resorts, golf courses, political campaigns, real estate, small businesses, restaurants, construction, and athletes.
